What are the challenges of Human Resources Management?
CHALLENGES OF HRM
Strategic human resources management refers to an
overall direction of an organization in which organization wishes to achieve
its objectives through the use of people/human capital. In order to achieve
goals, an organization needs people as an important input with a great role to
play to reach targets.
However there are various challenges that hinder
the strategic human resources towards managing organization. These are as
follows;
1. People are diverse.
Efforts of bringing people together and shape
them in order to achieve objectives is subject to people's attitudes, behavior
and culture and this may hinder achieving organizational objectives. For the
organization to achieve its objectives, people as key players have to be aware
of the objectives which an organization intends to achieve. In pursuing their
daily activities, employees should ensure meeting objective of the organization.
2. HRM is not considered as a responsibility for
each manager
Training, motivating and improving employee
morale starts at departmental level. Each manager in his line of functions has
to ensure various matters relating to employees are handled according. Each
manager should ensure his/her staffs are well trained and developed, rewarded
and compensated accordingly. In this case, Human resources departments are
getting enough cooperation from departmental levels.
3. Treating people as variable cost instead of
human capital
Employees need to be valued properly as one of
the assets an organization has. Skilled, motivated and experienced employees
need to be retained by an organization because are likely to add value to
an organization and can lead an organization easily achieve its objective. Employees
have more to play in order an organization to achieve its objectives. In this
case, an organization has to ensure employees are trained, developed, rewarded,
motivated and retained. Some organizations are likely to fall or fail to
achieve strategic competitive advantage due to lack of skilled and experienced
employees.
4. Measuring worker productivity
In some cases (team works/groups) it is difficult
to measure worker productivity in order to decide as to whether to identify
training needed or to keep rewarding and motivating them. For some works
to be completed, involves more than one people who need to work together and in
this case, it is difficult to measure productivity of each employee
methodologies of measuring productivity in cases of qualitative targets is a
