What are the common asked questions during an interview?


Recently, most organizations have standardized nature of question that enables them to obtain an employee. These  questions enables to obtain more information related with an employee that helps an organization to make decisions on whether to employ or not employ such interviewee. 

The followings are questions that are likely to be asked during an interview;

1. Qualifier/credential questions - these questions helps to determine qualifications and standards of the prospective employee who is being interviewed. These questions includes;
  • What is your education background? in this question, don't start from nursery school.
  • What is your University grade point average? explain briefly the grading system (letter or numeral
  • What is your previous experience?
  • What was the most important lesson learnt in your previous employment?
  • Sustain long hours?

2. Personal question - these questions helps to determine background and personal qualities. examples of these quesstions are such as;
  • What are your long-term career goals?
  • How would your best friend describe you?
  • What software package can you use?
  • Do you drive?

3. Behavioral questions - The logic of this is that, past behavior mostly affects new behavior. Examples of these question includes;
  • How did you match others? 
  • Give example of a skill you acquired?
  • What would you do if you saw one of your fellow employees stealing?
  • Why did you have to quit your previous employment? - At this point don't criticize your former employer, you may be marked as a trouble maker or a gossip

4. General questions - Whenever you are asked if you can do a job, tell certainly, i can do - then get busy and find how to do it - (Theodore Roosevelt, 26th President of USA). examples of these questions includes the followings;
  • Tell me/us about yourself.
  • Describe your ideal job.
  • What would you like to avoid in a job?
  • What are your future plans?
  • What is your great talent  that will help you excel  in the workplace? what are your best skills?
  • Did i forget to ask something you wanted to share?

5. Motivation/ Initiative Questions - Examples of these questions includes the followings;
  • Why did you apply for this job/this Company? - Make sure you read the job description thoroughly so that to answer this question.
  • Why did you apply for this career path?
  • What did you consider to be the greatest strengths and/or weaknesses? - If you are asked for your weaknesses, don't list many  - only mention one. Choose a minor flaw which is not essential to the job. Turn it into something positive.


6. Problem solving/Imaginative Questions - these questions helps to evaluate ability to think quickly. Example of these question includes;
  • How would you deal with customer who potential but something bad has happened due to her/his carelessness?
  • Unusual question - if you were lost on an island, what three items would you want with you? If you could be a kitchen appliance, which one would you like to be and why? Here the employer wants to know if you can think on your feet.
  • Do you remember one of the most disturbing problems that you had solve - in school, at work, in the family etc.


7. Attitude/Opinion/Maturity Questions - Examples of these questions are below;
  • What happens when you get angry?
  • Which race, sex, are you most comfortable to work with? 
  • Do you prefer to work alone or in a team?
  • How do you deal with personality conflicts in a group?
  • What are characteristics are important in a manager?


8. Educational questions - Examples of these questions icludes the followings;
  • What subjects were you best at, at schools?
  • What plans do you have for continued study?
  • What technical skills do you have? - In this kind of question,  Just saying you have got skills is not enough, quote real examples of when you used such skills. 
  • What have you ever gained by participating in extra-curricular activities?
